Fresh ingredients: brussel sprouts
Stored ingredients: polenta, onions, tomato puree, frozen sweetcorn, soya, sage, red wine
If you don't know what polenta is, I don't know where to begin! There could be a whole section all for it - it's like cornmeal which you cook up good and thick, leave it to cool and set and typically slice it and then fry it.
It's a typical food of north Italy - so much so that southern Italians call the northerners "Polentoni".
You can buy it in meal form and then cook it from there, or you can get quick-cook ("instant") and nowadays you can even get packaged precooked polenta that you just slice and fry. You can even get it organic.
For the sauce, chop the onion and fry it, then add tomato puree and hot water, brussel sprouts, sweetcorn and soya, salt and a little sugar (as always with tomato), sage and some red wine; cook until the sprouts are ready.
