Security and confidentiality of information you provide:
we don't collect any from you - so you can be assured that we won't abuse it or
provide it to anyone else!
Cookies:
cookies are used a little on the site - for example to limit the display of
photo competition rules to once per day. If you block "first party cookies" you'll
stop this working and it'll probably be irritating for you :)
If you block "third party cookies" that will affect the website tracking we use a bit;
check here for their privacy policy http://www.toolshack.com/privacy.asp
The tracking information is used to look at how people use the website - for
example it helped me spot that a link labelled 'latest party photos' on the main Undertow site
was pointing at the wrong page. It's not used for any commercial, marketing or advertising
purposes.
There is an Undertow mailing list, which is totally opt-in.
Most people join it using old-fashionied pen and paper at the parties, but you can also mail
susan@undertow.org.uk
And finally, Java
or to be more precise, Javascript... on this site Javascript is used a lot, for two
main motivations. On one hand, it saves me an awful lot of typing as my webspace provider
doesn't support some of the other things that you can do with web pages that allow you to
put the content once... on the other it's used to try to format the pages nicely according
to what kind of browser you have, and then to manipulate the content to look nice.
If you've disabled your browser from running Java, none of this will work... you can probably
still use the site (just about), but it'll look seriously crap. The following paragraph should
tell you if you're running my scripts or not:
My scripts don't do anything sinister... they don't download anything
to your machine, change any files, or anything like that. Apparently, turning off Java
isn't a good way to stop that sort of thing anyway - but I don't know much about these
things, if you want to know more try the following site:
