My cousin Aradia, one year older than me, was the oldest of all us kids. When she was about twelve, she had chilblains and my aunt (zia Tecla) told my mum that she had been passing the cream that the doctor gave but they were just getting worse - her hands were bleeding. My mum remembered that when she was a kid in Calabria, her little brother had chilblains in his feet. My grandmum made him stand in a basin and piss on them. It must be your own piss and it has to be hot. So Aradia had to do this on her hands - and she was suffering so much that she did it. We say "it was like water on fire" - it worked straight away.
